
ABOUT
John Danaher is a New Zealand-born Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor widely regarded as one of the greatest coaches in grappling history. A philosophy graduate from Columbia University, Danaher brings an intellectual and systematic approach to martial arts that has revolutionized modern submission grappling.
As head instructor at the famous Renzo Gracie Academy in New York City, Danaher developed the legendary 'Danaher Death Squad' - a group of elite no-gi grapplers including Gordon Ryan, Gary Tonon, and Nicky Ryan who dominated competition circuits worldwide.
Danaher is famous for his all-black rash guard attire, his encyclopedic knowledge of submissions, and his methodical approach to developing complete grapplers. His instructional series, particularly on leg locks and back attacks, are considered essential viewing for serious practitioners.
He currently leads New Wave Jiu-Jitsu in Austin, Texas, continuing to develop world-class competitors and produce influential instructional content.
