ABOUT
Marcelo Garcia is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legend widely considered one of the greatest competitors and most influential grapplers of all time. Born in Minas Gerais, Brazil in 1983, Marcelo's competitive career produced some of the most memorable moments in BJJ history.
With 5 ADCC World Championships and 4 IBJJF World Championships, Marcelo compiled one of the most impressive competitive resumes ever. More importantly, he did so while competing at a smaller weight class and routinely defeating much larger opponents with his technical brilliance.
Marcelo is renowned for his butterfly guard, X-guard, arm drags, and guillotine chokes. His positive attitude, humble demeanor, and willingness to share knowledge made him beloved by the BJJ community. He famously posted all his competition footage online for free study.
As founder of Marcelo Garcia Academy in New York City, he has trained numerous world champions and continues to influence the development of modern jiu-jitsu.
